Important voting dates

From the Illinois State Board of Elections abbreviated calendar for the November 3, 2026 General Election. The calendar says it is not a complete list.

  • September 24, 2026: Early voting begins. This is also the first day the election authority mails an official ballot to someone who applied to vote by mail.
  • October 6, 2026: Close of regular voter registration.
  • October 7, 2026: Grace-period registration and voting begins.
  • October 18, 2026: Close of online voter registration.
  • October 29, 2026: Last day for the election authority to receive a vote-by-mail application by mail and still mail the ballot. In-person applications are accepted until November 2, 2026.
  • November 2, 2026: Last day of early voting.
  • November 3, 2026: General Election.
